 Hello runners,
It is with great regret that we unfortunately have to postpone our race this Sunday in Marsh Farm until later in the year. The Environment Agency have closed off approximately 1.5 miles of our route, and there is no safe alternative diversion that will give us the full ten miles. The local authority at the Farm have requested that we postpone the race until later in the year when the route is fully re-opened.

I apologies that we are informing you of this news with such short notice however it is simply out of our control. I am committed to organising safe and enjoyable races and after listening to the advice from the Environment Agency and the country park manager we have decided that it is best to wait until the original route is reopened. I have arranged a meeting with Country Park Manager and Environment Agency to find a new date for the race and will send you information in due course.
In meantime we would like to offer you either a full refund, transfer entry to any of our other races, or you can await the date of the re arranged event. We are terribly sorry for any inconvenience it may cause and hope that you understand that the situation is out of our control.

CROSS COUNTRY DATES UPDATE

Dates are still provisional until all hosts and venues are confirmed:

Dates for SATURDAY Essex league – This is a free event as the Club pays (parking fees payable)

8th October hosted by Thurrock @ One Tree Hill
29th October 2016 hosted by Chelmsford AC @ Hylands Park
19th November 2016 hosted by Cambridge & Coleridge AC @ Horseheath point to point
14th January 2017 hosted by Braintree & District AC @ the Discovery Centre, Gt Notley Country Park
11th February 2017 hosted by Basildon AC @ Gloucester Park

The timetable is unaltered from last year with the first race for under 13 boys and girls starting at 10:30am, under 15 boys and girls starting at 11:00am, the under 17/20 women starting at 11:30am. The under 17 men/senior women starts at 12 Noon with the final race for senior men starting at 12:45pm.


Dates for SUNDAY South Essex League- Cost £2 per runner, please bring change (plus parking)

Dates are all provisional until each venue has granted permission to each club to host a race there.

Kirste presentation quiz night is on Friday 21st October. At Grove Wood School. Tables of up to 8 and tickets will be £3 per person. Benfleet members running the K5 ...

Benfleet members running the K5 ...
As I'm sure you are aware we introduced a new system for allocating running places for both the K5 and B15 this year.
System is based on the theory that if you are free to run you would also be free to marshal. So members had to commit to marshalling first, and then if places became free running slots would be allocated to the most deserving marshals who had asked to be considered for a running slot.

I'm pleased to say that none of our marshals this year have taken up the running option for the K5 so we won't have any Benfleet Runners taking part this year.
Probably just as well as we are still short of a handful of positions and have already had one drop out this morning !
A little disappointing with only a week to go and the marshal list filling up, we have had a few requests to run because "They really want too ... "
The system was set up precisely to stop this ...
If you wanted to run, then you needed to put your name down on the marshal list and hope for a place. Not wait for others to commit and then slip into the race at the last minute.
This really isn't fair on all the other marshals who would also love to run, but have put the club and the spirit of Kirste and all that entails first.

KIRSTE 5 MARSHALS

KIRSTE 5 MARSHALS - thank you so much for volunteering. I am currently sorting the final list of marshals and key positions and will email them all to people at the start of next week. We will have paper copies of the instructions at the Club on Tuesday/Mexican Wednesday/Thursday so please come down if you can to collect - we need to know you have your instructions. And we still don't have enough Marshals, so please volunteer if you can. If you want to run then add you name to the Marshal list and also the points system to run, that is the only option if you want to run and is purely dependant upon us getting enough Marshals. 😄

OK, we need a Volunteer and a Van (preferably a Volunteer with a Van) to collect our two marquee tents (with help) from Ark Lane Campsite Hall Road Rochford, SS4 1PD, on Saturday 23rd July, 9am ish and deliver straight to Grovewood Primary, Rayleigh for the Kirste5 set-up.

Would be ideal if said, same person could then collect at 1pm ish Sunday 24th July after the race and re-deliver back to Ark Lane.

Any offers, as we don't really want the expense of hiring a van....??

Brian's funeral

Brian's funeral will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday 1st July at Pitsea Crematorium. In accordance with Brian's style I am suggesting club colours or smart/casual. We will be going to the Anchor in Benfleet afterwards.

I am asking for flowers from the family, and donations to the Kirste 5 fund, which will go to the Breast Cancer unit at Southend hospital.

Thanks once again for all your love and friendship, it has really helped.

11th June Track CANCELLED

* EASTWOOD TRACK SESSION 11TH JUNE *

Unfortunately we have been advised this afternoon that we are unable to use the track tomorrow morning for either the adult or junior club sessions so please don't turn up at the track. 

I will be running the adult session at John Burrows playing fields instead still from 9-10am.

The Kirste Curry Night is a traditional event,

The Kirste Curry Night is a traditional event, held on the last Wednesday before race day, and not only allows all the hard-working Race Team to unwind and have a break, but also raises funds for our two charities and is a great social event.
As this year is our 5th Anniversary, we have two special Social Events in the weeks before the race.

--- Saturday 9th July 3pm-10pm
1st Annual BBQ and fun day.
Adults £10.00, Children £8.00 (covers all food)

--- Wednesday 20th July 2016
Kirste Mexican Night, at Panchos, Rayleigh.
Adults £20.00, Children £5.00
of which 50% goes back to the Kirste Charities.
(2 courses, fixed menu choice -
a 10% service charge will be added to the total bill)

After the pre-run talk I would like to invite everyone to come together down the Hoy to celebrate Brian's life and the love we shared for him.

This is quite possibly the hardest post that I'll ever have to write and it really doesn't seem fitting for what I am about to say, but is, however, the best way to reach out to you all together.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I tell you the saddest of news.

Our dear family member, Brian Lunt,  suffered a fatal heart attack this morning.

Our only consolation at this tragic time is, the doctors believe it was instant, so he didn't suffer or indeed realise what was happening.

It goes without saying that our thoughts, prayers & love are with Bobby and the families at this terrible time. 

Until Bobby has had a chance to comprehend what has happened, she would ask you please to respect her privacy for the time being. Much love to you all. Sarah Norton

London Marathon 2016

London Marathon - we will be officially marshalling the course again this year, along the Commercial Road to Limehouse Station (mile 21). If you want any specific food/drink then let one of the team have it on Sunday morning before you get on the coach. We will also have suppliers/refreshments along our area, so make sure you look out for us !

 Unfortunately due to work / Junior Club / AGM commitments we don't have anyone to open the club up on Tuesday Night.

If you want to run before the AGM you still have the option to meet up in the car park and run together from there.

Remember the AGM starts at 8:15 so you will need to start early.
